We Remember: City, State Leaders Assemble For Oklahoma City Bombing Remembrance Ceremony

Oklahomans gathered for the 2024 Remembrance Ceremony for the 1995 Oklahoma City Bombing on Friday morning.

The ceremony was open to the public at the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum beginning at 8:40 a.m.

Music provided by brass instrument players from the Oklahoma City Philharmonic preluded the event, with the National Anthem being sung by musical group Point of Grace.

Chairman of the Oklahoma City National Memorial Foundation, Dr. Susan Chambers, welcomed survivors, victim's loved ones and the community.

Following the introduction, at 9:02 a.m., 168 seconds of silence were observed by Oklahoma City Police Chief Wade Gourley.

Speakers at the ceremony will include, in order, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland, deputy Homeland Security advisor Caitlin Durkovich, Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt, and Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt.

Mayor Holt was a sophomore at Putnam City North High School at the time of the bombing, and said he remembers the fear and concern surrounding the community.

"In the days and weeks that followed... it was just surreal on so many levels," Holt said. "Tying to come to grips with living in a world where things like that could happen to you, in the United States."

Following the ceremony, guests will have free entry to the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum until 5 p.m.

Final entry into the Museum will be at 4 p.m.
