'We Will Rebuild This': Disaster Agencies Hold Town Hall In Sulphur

One week after a tornado killed one person and injured dozens of others in the town of Sulphur, disaster agencies from every level of government are sharing resources with its residents about what comes next.

During a town hall on Saturday, the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management revealed damage assessments in Sulphur and parts of Murray County have identified 161 homes or businesses that were damaged or destroyed.

"After the tornadoes touched down Saturday night, we immediately reached out to FEMA to request joint damage assessment," said ODEM Director Annie Mack Vest.

Federal agencies have deployed incident response teams to Sulphur. Those agencies include FEMA, the Small Business Administration, and the National Parks Service.

Funds from those agencies are available for renters, homeowners, and small business owners experiencing some form of loss from the tornado. The SBA has set up a disaster recovery center at the library in Sulphur.

"We will rebuild this," City Manager Andy Freeman said. "And it's not going to stop us. Sulphur strong."
