Two separate Oklahoma City officer-involved shootings are under investigation. One of the shootings on Sunday turned deadly when an officer shot and killed an armed man.
Police said both calls started as domestic-related incidents. At least two officers fired at citizens and were placed on routine administrative leave.
Back-to-back officer-involved shootings turned two northwest Oklahoma City homes into crime scenes over the weekend.
“It’s something that very rarely does happen,” said Captain Valerie Littlejohn with the Oklahoma City Police Department. “You can never predict when it’s going to happen.”
The first call went out around 4 p.m. on Sunday, police were called to a home near Northwest 63rd Street and May Avenue.
Police learned the call was a domestic situation where a woman shot a man.
A responding officer saw Lisa Daniels come out of the house holding something believed to be a firearm.
The officer fired at Daniels but missed. Officers then tased her, and she was taken into custody.
About four hours later, police were called to another domestic situation involving shots fired at a home near Hefner Road and Rockwell Avenue.
“When the officers arrived, they did come in contact with an armed individual outside of the home,” said Littlejohn. “During that confrontation, an officer did discharge his firearm striking that individual.”
Police said the armed man died at the scene and his name has not been released to the public. This was the first fatal officer-involved shooting in Oklahoma City this year.
Police will turn their investigation over to the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s office and a multi-county grand jury will decide if charges are warranted in both shootings.
There have been three Oklahoma City officer-involved shootings so far this year. There were three in all of 2023, one was fatal.
