As Oklahoma City continues to grow, city leaders are looking at ways to keep the momentum by generating money with a proposed tax.

In the past month, Oklahoma City has been a hub of activity, hosting the Memorial Marathon, the Olympic Trials at Riversport OKC, and the NBA Playoffs. City leaders are eager to leverage this surge in business with a proposed hotel tax increase, which will benefit residents, business owners, and other stakeholders in this growth.

This tax is for staying overnight in a hotel or a home-share property in Oklahoma City.

Councilmembers introduced an ordinance to raise the tax to 9.25%, which will go toward promoting tourism and improving city attractions.

If the vote is approved by the City Council, the proposal will land on the ballot in August.
