House Bill 3278 could take foreign language out of high school graduation requirements. Now, it is headed to the governor’s desk.

There have been a lot of concerns as House Bill 3278 has run through the legislature this year, with some saying this is too big of a change to make so quickly.

Representative Rhonda Baker (R- Yukon) says that this bill would change graduation requirements to what she calls relevant coursework for Oklahoma students and what they want to pursue post-grad.

She says this would in turn make the rigor stronger in math so college-bound students don’t have to be remediated in math courses.

Lastly, the bill would allow flexibility for students to choose courses that will benefit them post-grad - whether they’re going to college, or career tech, or into a trade.
