After the Oklahoma State School Boards Association granted more emergency teacher certifications in 2024 than ever before, an Oklahoma City teacher is sharing her experience.

Destiny Jule is one of many graduates from Teach for America, a program that gives people a fast track into the teaching field.

"Our kids need certain personnel in our building and there's an allocation for that, but there just isn't a body or person for that is challenging," Jule said.

Jule said there is so much to learn in those first few years as a teacher, but she encourages anyone who is thinking about teaching to do it.

Another program graduate, Hayley Slane, is a teacher in the Oklahoma City metro who said education is a powerful tool that every child deserves to have.

"Think about a teacher that you had that was really impactful on you," Slane said. "All students and all children deserve to have the same experience."

Jule and Slane have been teaching in the Oklahoma metro for five years, and both say they plan to stay for many more.
