Family members tell News 9 that they're coping with the loss---while also coming to terms with the identity of the accused killer.

The week after a tragedy has not dimmed the aching hearts of those who knew James, Patty, and Shayla Mayhugh.

Brandon Burnett remembers family holidays and vacations spent together.

"Especially in Chickasha; everybody in Chickasha knew them and loved them. There is not a bad thing to say about them," said Brandon, Shayla's cousin.

Brandon's brother, Adam, feels the support of a community wrapping around his family.

"We're going to miss them. And we love them," Adam, Shalya’s cousin said.

And their sister, Savannah, says the days since and years ahead have brought the family together.

"We need all the prayers we can get right now. It's hard for people to know what to say to people that are going through this situation, but prayers are a really big thing," Savannah, Shayla’s cousin said.

Finding the words can be difficult but these three siblings were quick to agree.

"James was a family man,” said Savannah.

"Patty was so gentle and kind," said Adam.

"Shayla was a little more outspoken," said Brandon.

If they had the chance to share those words, the message of what they would choose to say is a reflection of how they feel.

"If they were here right now I would just tell them we're going to bat for you [pause] And just thank you to everyone who has supported us," Adam said.

Patty, James, and Shayla were laid to rest today at the Bible Baptist Church in Chickasha.
