A Shawnee resident discovered a body in her front yard on Sunday.
Police were called to the scene near North Kickapoo and West 11th.
Crime scene investigators were focused on an area near the home, by an orange dumpster.
Neighbors told News 9 there was a dead man lying face down in the yard.
Shawnee Police have not confirmed the identity or description of the person who was found dead.
The department also has not revealed if they're investigating this as a suspicious death or not.
Neighbors said they recognized the man and saw him performing renovation work on the house on Saturday. They said the home has been undergoing work for several months.
One neighbor was in their yard with their grandkids when another man came by and told them all to get inside.
She said she and her husband, retired paramedics and EMTs, did not see any obvious signs of trauma.
"My husband came outside to talk to him to find out why he wanted my kids in the house, that's when he said there was a dead body across the street," said neighbor Manette Hair.
Investigators left the neighborhood just before 4 p.m.
Shawnee Police said it is investigating the scene as a homicide unless the Medical Examiner's Office states otherwise.
