Oklahoma County Detainee Found Unresponsive, Dies At Hospital

A 45-year-old detainee at the Oklahoma County Detention Center died on Sunday, authorities report.

OCDC said officers found Jeremy Birchfield unresponsive in his cell at approximately 1:40 p.m.

Officers called for medical staff and began life-saving measures as EMSA arrived at the scene.

He was taken to a local hospital and declared dead.

The circumstances of his death are under investigation. OCDC said at this time, it appears to be a suicide.

The State Medical Examiner's Office will declare the cause of death.

Birchfield was booked on May 312, 2024, on accusations of sexual abuse of a child under 12. His bond was $265,000.

On Tuesday, 27-year-old James Fetton also died at the Oklahoma County Detention Center.
