The family of a woman killed in a hit and run crash in Pottawatomie County waits for answers. The 50-year-old grandmother died Friday night after she was hit along State Highway 3E in Earlsboro, just east of Shawnee.

"It's just awful what happened to her and I wish whoever did it would have come forward," said LaCinda Cobb, Tanya Couteau's daughter.

Cobb says instead, whoever hit and killed her mother, Tanya Couteau, is still out there.

"It's just been hard on all of us," said Cobb. "My mother, she was really a great person, had a heart of gold, would give you the shirt off of her back if you were ever in need."

Cobb said her mom took off walking to a friend's house Friday night. According to Oklahoma Highway Patrol investigators, Couteau was involved in a fatal hit and run that night sometime between 10:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. along SH 3E and Jack Hall Drive. Investigators say she died on scene with injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle. Cobb said her mother's body was found more than 12 hours later.

"I don't know how anyone couldn't have seen her from the road, if she was so close to that road," she said.

The family says investigators found the car they believe was involved but have yet to find the person behind the wheel.

"I just wish instead of running they would have came forward," said Cobb. "If you hit somebody, stop, call 911. Maybe she could have gotten help that night instead of laying out there until three in the afternoon."

Now through a GoFundMe account they hope to raise enough money for the funeral.

"It's hard," Cobb said. "I'm only 23 and having to plan your own mother's funeral is hard."

If you have any information about this case, call the Central Regional Communications Center at (405) 425-2323.
