An elderly woman’s dog is mauled to death by two loose dogs in southeast Oklahoma City.

Pam Boyett says she was walking her two dogs, Buddy, and Missy, when the large, tan dogs came out of nowhere and attacked her smaller dog, Buddy. It happened in her neighborhood, near a park off Southeast 64th Street and South Byers Avenue.

“I was devastated,” Boyett said. “All of a sudden these dogs came out of nowhere.”

Boyett said during their normal walk on Tuesday, the two large dogs grabbed Buddy and took him away, leash and all.

“They grabbed him, I didn't have any warning,” she said.

Boyett said her son eventually got Buddy away from them and they rushed him to the vet, but he didn’t make it. “Buddy's gone but he saved my life,” she said. “Because of them taking him away, they didn't attack me.”

Missy is okay too, but their walks aren’t the same without Buddy. “She misses him too, they were friends,” Boyett said. “They played together well.”

Now Boyett wants to warn her neighbors, especially those who have children.

“We need to be protected, people need to take care of their animals that are wild like this so that we can be safe in our own neighborhood,” Boyett said. “There's a lot of children here, there's older people here walking all the time. I just don't want something to happen to a child.”

Oklahoma City Animal Welfare says officers continue to comb the area, to find the dogs. “These are some dogs that belong to someone because they had collars on,” Boyett said.

However, while the dogs are still out there, Boyett says she won’t rest until Buddy’s attackers are off the streets.

“I'm just thankful that I have him buried in my backyard and he's home,” she said.

Animal welfare says another person complained about a tan dog and officers did pick it up but have not verified if that dog was involved in Buddy's attack. If you see aggressive dogs, contact the Animal Welfare’s Dispatch Center at (405) 297-2255. If you are in immediate danger, call 911.
