Mollycoddled Hash Slinger makes some of the sweetest treats in the Oklahoma City metro, sourcing their ingredients from Oklahoma and other local businesses.
News 9's Jordan Ryan took the Arca Continental Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch for a visit to the candy shop to take a look at how they make their candy.
Melissa Wedman, the head candy maker at Mollycoddled Hash Slinger, dove into why locally sourcing ingredients does not only make the candy sweeter, but makes a sweeter experience.
"Everything we do here, if not made in Oklahoma, is made in America," Wedman said. "If we can't get an ingredient or a product for our retail store here in Oklahoma, we make sure it's made by another small business."
Caramels, one of the most popular sweets made by the shop, has a touching backstory of how it came to be such a special treat to Wedman.
"My dad passed away; he was the ultimate foodie. I was racking my brain for what special treat I could make in his memory, then it hit me one day that he loved all things caramel," Wedman said.
Using this inspiration, Wedman got to work on perfecting the process of making their caramels.
