An Edmond family honors the life of their son after his untimely death two years ago.

Gavin Black died following a motorcycle crash on his way to school. Since his death, his family has turned to his passion for cars and airplanes to give back to the community.

His parents have created Gavin’s Legacy Memorial Aviation Scholarship through fundraisers and car shows. The nonprofit will award three high school students scholarships in honor of Gavin. On Tuesday, Black Bear Diner on Memorial donated 20% of its proceeds to the fund.

“The thought process is we take a tragedy, and we turn that into blessing and honoring three kids that were his age in high school and giving them the legacy, the opportunity to go and fly airplanes and get their private pilots certificate,” said Jared Black, Gavin’s Dad.

The second annual Gavin Black Memorial Car & Bike Show is Saturday, June 15, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Edmond North High School.
