A cat in Harmon County has tested positive for avian influenza, health experts say.
The Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy from the University of Minnesota said the positive test, which was collected in March, is the first detection in a mammal in Oklahoma.
The organization also said three other cases were found in domestic cats in Michigan.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one of the ways to minimize exposure to avian flu, and other diseases, is by avoiding unprotected contact with people or animals known to be infectious.
