The college softball season is in the books and professional softball is picking up. Athletes Unlimited is hosting its annual three-series event in Wichita this weekend.
It’s essentially three weeks of all-star softball games with individual competition weaved into it.
Players can earn points for hits, great plays in the field, their team winning games and even just winning innings... then- at the end of each week, the individual leaders become captains and draft the new teams for the next week... FIVE former Sooners are in Wichita playing with many of the best players in the world.
"I'm playing against girls I watched growing up, which is insane to me. I never thought I would have this opportunity or this career. I mean, the talent level is incredible. I think this is the best softball you will ever see on TV. It's incredible to be a part of," said Hope Trautwein, former OU pitcher.
"It is quite literally the best of the best every at-bat, every game, every pitch. You really have to continue to get better. There are no off pitches. You can't take a breath off, a pitch off, and so it can be really tricky sometimes. Especially as a pitcher," said Alex Storako, former OU pitcher.
Former Sooner slugger Jocelyn Alo is at the top of the leaderboard after the first series and is a captain heading into series two. The second series starts on Sunday.
