With the start of Summer, hospitals around the country have already begun to prepare for more patients to be treated with heat-related illnesses.
Doctors say staying cool and hydrated is crucial to beating the heat this summer, as temperatures begin to rise throughout the nation.
Symptoms related to heat illnesses can include cramps, fatigue, exhaustion or dizziness that can lead to illnesses like heat stroke if not treated.
Dr. William Gray, a doctor at Mainline Health, explained why staying inside this summer can help prevent illnesses related to the heat and rising temperatures, as well as what treatment is available if patients are subject to a heat-related illness.
"There's all sorts of things that we can do to both hydrate patients and manage their core temperature by cooling them," Gray said.
Keeping out of the sun and staying hydrated can help prevent succumbing to heat-related illnesses this summer.
