There were some loose ends to tie up for the Moore High School class of 1974.
50 years after they started their graduation ceremony, they finally got a chance to finish it.
Jamie Allen and Mike Wilson are among about 500 students who were supposed to graduate from Moore High on May 23rd, 1974.
And until now they've had some unfinished business hanging over their heads.
That evening, they lined up in a cap and gown on graduation day but never got a chance to walk across the stage.
Then all of a sudden, the students heard, “Everybody's gonna clear out, everybody take cover. We have a tornado.”
The F-1 tornado knocked the power out for hours and caused minor damage near Yukon, but the ceremony was never rescheduled.
No words could prepare the class of ‘74 for this moment.
The 1974 graduates have completed all of their coursework of the original 500. Around 200 were there to formally receive their diplomas in front of their children and grandchildren. And for some, their parents.
Not everyone was able to attend.
The ceremony was paused to acknowledge the loss of 93 classmates already gone. Their pictures brought back a flood of memories, and family members walked the stage on their behalf.
After five decades of waiting, the class of ‘74 finally turned their tassels. And this time, Mother Nature cooperated.
