As the heat wave sets up, some people are dealing with no air conditioning.

Darryl Cooper lives at Western Oaks Apartments in Bethany where several tenants are struggling to stay cool.

“I have to come outside just to cool off,” Cooper said. “This is what I pay $675 for.”

It’s hard to see what Darryl Cooper pays for with the lights out.

“I keep it dark like this because the heat off the lights just makes it hotter,” he said. “You're just sweating profusely.”

His air conditioning is on the fritz and even his four fans provide little relief.

“It's just circulating hot air basically,” Cooper said. “It's terrible it's hard on me it's depressing I’m a heart patient and also a mental patient I’m just trying to hang in there, but it's a lot on me.”

He says that it’s all he’s getting from management too.

“They're saying they fixed it but as you can see, they haven't,” he said. “They said it's fixed, I feel like it's a joke I don't know.”

Another tenant at the Western Oaks Apartment Complex in Bethany says Darryl isn’t the only one.

“I know people over here with ACs out, they can't get them fixed refrigerators have been out,” said one tenant who wanted to remain anonymous. “Windows leak it's trash it's really bad around here.”

News 9 went into the office to find out why it’s so bad and they told us the maintenance worker was out of town and now they are backlogged. They also say they are waiting on parts or AC units for at least four tenants. Meanwhile for Darryl, he says he’ll keep waiting, in the dark.

“Oh boy,” he said. “I can't win, I can't win.”
