An Oklahoma City couple was charged with child abuse after a little girl was discovered with broken bones and internal injuries, according to police.
Hospitalized for more than a week, police say the child told them “people hurt her.”
A court filing shows the four-year-old girl was in daycare when she began vomiting and was sent home with her mother's boyfriend. Shortly after, investigators say she was rushed to a local children's hospital.
Court filings from May of 2024 reveal Jacqueline Rodriguez and her boyfriend Brayan Camarillo-Padierna took her daughter to the hospital. Rodriguez asked that her daughter be treated for vomiting and a "rash or bug bites" that doctors later determined to be "significant trauma to her body."
Records show the child was hospitalized for more than a week.
Doctors treated her for a lacerated spleen, a collapsed lung that required a chest tube, multiple rib fractures, and significant bruising and swelling to her back, face, arms, and legs, according to court filings.
Living in a duplex in northeast Oklahoma City, when questioned by police Rodriguez "denied anyone in her home harming her daughter."
She told investigators she had contacted the child's daycare after she repeatedly came home with "bug bites."
According to an affidavit, officers reviewed surveillance video and determine the girl had not been injured in daycare.
When opening up to her foster family, court filings show detectives questioned the girl again. She told them the day she was hurt her mother "did not love her that day."
Investigators say she said her mom's boyfriend “was mean to her and pulled her hair."
Pointing to her arm that doctors placed in a cast, investigators say she explained Camarillo-Padierna hit her, then, demonstrating "by punching her own stomach" she told police "her mom hit her also."
According to court records when police attempted to follow up with the couple, they told the investigators they had retained attorneys.
The couple was arrested Saturday. They remain in the Oklahoma County Detention Center.
