As of Wednesday morning, 51,000 OG&E customers are without power due to overnight storms.
Severe weather and damaging winds caused several power lines to fall throughout the Oklahoma City metro.
With dangerous heat in the forecast for Wednesday, linemen are working to restore power as quickly as possible.
Carson Cunningham from OG&E joined News 9 at 9 with an update on their progress in getting things back up and running.
He said their crews have been working since last night to get a scope on the damage.
"We're currently assessing the damage. We had crews working throughout the night, and now, with the benefit of daylight on our side, crews were in the field at 6 a.m. this morning to fully assess the impact," Cunningham said.
With heat indexes in the triple digits, Cunningham said they understand the urgency of the situation.
"We certainly understand the situation here, and we just urge folks to have their safety plans in place with the heat, check-in on family, friends, loved ones," Cunningham said.
He said they have a list of public places to cool down at OGE.com/coolzones.
He also said people should avoid getting close to downed power lines and report them by calling (805)152-6870.
