The Oklahoma Spark is gearing up for Thursday night's season opener at Devon Park with exciting new additions to their roster.
The Spark has welcomed several players from the Oklahoma Sooners' recent national championship-winning softball team, including Rylie Boone, Jayda Coleman, Kinzie Hansen, and Alaynah Torres.
Coleman and Hansen stopped by News 9 at 9 with Tina Floyd, owner of the OKC Spark, to talk about the upcoming season.
Floyd said they are thrilled to welcome these players for the 2024 season and can not wait to see what they bring to the team.
"We already had a phenomenal roster, but to get to add women of this caliber is amazing. We are so excited to see what year two has in store," Floyd said.
Hansen said they hope to bring the momentum from their college careers with them to the professional league.
"It's been a consistent high throughout college, so we're just kind of continuing that into the Spark and bringing the energy that we've established throughout our careers and continuing that as long as we can," Hansen said.
Coleman said she didn't know if she would ever get to play pro and is excited to meet and play with new athletes all season.
"I'm just so grateful and blessed that there's people like Tina that have invested in our sport and just wanna represent us and treat us right," Coleman said.
The two have also joined the Team USA softball team and look forward to the opportunity to represent their sport and their country.
"It's truly just an honor. I think you grow up and focus on playing college ball and winning national championships, but looking towards long term, you wanna play in the Olympics, looking towards winning a gold medal," Hansen said.
Hansen and Coleman both said they have been thankful for Oklahoma fans' support and hope to receive the same in their next endeavors.
"I hope to see those Sooner fans start wearing some Spark uniforms, some Spark shirts and just continue to follow with us and to bring that momentum from Oklahoma Sooners to the Spark," Coleman said.
The season starts at Devon Park on June 27. Tickets are available at OKCspark.com.
