2024 NBA Draft: OKC Selects Serbian Guard At 12, Weber State Forward With 26th Pick

The 2024 Draft is underway, with the Thunder making two selections in the first round before night's end.

The Oklahoma City Thunder selected Nikola Topic from Serbia in Round 1, with the 12th overall pick.

Topic is a 6-foot-6 guard who turns 19 years old on August 10. His agent told ESPN on June 5 that he has a partially torn ACL.

He originally suffered a knee injury in January, causing him to miss four months of action in the Adriatic League, according to ESPN.

He returned in late April where he was reinjured after three games.

With the 26th pick in the NBA Draft, the Thunder selected Dillon Jones from Weber State.

The Thunder executed a trade with the New York Knicks for the 26th pick, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Shams Charania, NBA Insider for the Athletic, reports that OKC included five future second-round picks in the trade to New York for Jones.

OKC has traded in the last two drafts, so I'm leaning toward Sam Presti making some kind of draft trade.

Don't draft for need has always been my motto, draft the best player left on your draft board.

If I had to make a choice right now, I still think J-Dub's little brother is a strong possibility. Cody isn't as polished as Jalen was coming out of college but one to two years from now, he can be.

Bub Carrington is another player that is being linked to the Thunder ... reports indicate he worked out for the Thunder.. stands 6-4, guard out of Pittsburgh. OKC is guard-heavy now, but that won't be a reason not to draft him.

Duke's Jared McCain is another prospect who reportedly worked out for OKC. He hit 41 percent from behind the 3-point line. A smart player fits right into the Thunder.

Remember that OKC has a bunch of future draft picks, so they have the assets to make a move up tonight.

#1 Overall Pick… Trae’s New Teammate?

The Atlanta Hawks selected Zaccharie Risacher, from France in the first overall pick in Round 1. It's solid but unspectacular, but that's what you expect in this draft. Risacher is a 3-and-D prototype, which you'd hope for more from a No. 1 overall pick, but that's what you're getting in this class. The better course of action would have been to trade down, but that option didn't seem to present itself to the Hawks.

2023

OKC picked up Cason Wallace in a trade, for the 10th overall pick.

Former Florida and Kansas State forward Keyontae Johnson was selected by the Thunder with the 50th overall pick.

2022

With the second pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, the Thunder selected Chet Holmgren, which was the highest draft pick since James Harden in 2009.

OKC traded with the Knicks to select Ousmane Dieng, 11th overall.

And to top it off, OKC selected Jalen Williams, and Jaylin Williams at #12 and #34.

2021

In an early draft surprise, the Oklahoma City Thunder selected Australian guard Josh Giddey with the franchise’s first NBA Draft lottery pick in five years.

The Thunder also selected Florida guard Tre Mann with the 18th overall pick.

The Thunder selected Villanova power forward Jeremiah Robinson-Earl with the No. 32 pick. 

Oklahoma City wrapped up its draft in 2021 when they selected Maryland's Aaron Wiggins at 55th overall.
