Firefighters battled heavy flames Monday night after a fire at a northwest Oklahoma City duplex.

According to residents in the area, children were shooting off fireworks in the street near the structure before flames broke out, however the Oklahoma City Fire Department cannot confirm that as the official cause.

The Oklahoma City Fire Department said the fire spread from one home to another one after starting in the garage of one home.

A neighbor who was on the scene of the blaze said it looked almost like an explosion.

"Boom! Came outside, it was like a big fire, it was like fireworks just started popping off," neighborhood resident Jordan Patterson said. "Looked like it started getting bigger... The other house caught on fire."

OKCFD said everyone self-evacuated before they arrived, so there were no injuries.

The Oklahoma City Fire Department is continuing to investigate the cause of the fire.
