Oklahoma City Police identified the suspect killed in Tuesday's northwest Oklahoma City standoff on Wednesday. Police identified the injured officer as well.
According to a release from Oklahoma City Police, officers were called to the scene of a man pointing a gun at another person at a home near Northwest 36th Street and North Pennsylvania Avenue around 9 a.m.
Police confirmed that officers encountered the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Kavon Ragan on his front porch.
The release states that officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, but Ragan refused commands and continued to enter and exit the home.
Police say that shortly after, Ragan began firing shots at officers, wounding Sgt. Joshua Scott. Scott was transported to a local hospital by another officer at the scene, according to police.
Police found out that Ragan had five other people in the home with him, three of whom were children.
Ragan continued firing at police personnel, and refused any opportunities to surrender peacefully, police confirmed.
At 11:47 a.m., police say that Ragan was shot and killed by an OCPD officer. The other occupants in the home were unharmed, according to police.
The officer who was shot was taken to a nearby hospital and is doing well after undergoing surgery, according to OCPD Capt. Valerie Littlejohn.
Littlejohn said officers involved in shooting the suspect have been placed on paid administrative leave. "It's hard on everybody," Littlejohn said. "Just the whole situation [...] the incident itself is very difficult for everyone involved."
Nearby homes were evacuated, according to police.
Neighborhood resident Lamont Overstreet says that violence in the area isn't a surprise, "This is a really bad area to be living in [...] I'm in the process of moving out of this area."
