The Porch Plays Granny Basketball

Wanting to learn some tips from the pros, the Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch travelled to Mustang to learn the rules of granny basketball.

MUSTANG, Okla. -

The Mustang Community Center is set to host a granny basketball competition as part of a fundraising effort.

Wanting to learn some tips from the pros, the Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch traveled to Mustang to take a step on the court.

The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, and event organizers say any women over 50 are eligible to compete.

"Granny basketball is for individuals over the age of 50," event organizer Angie Nichols said. "We have one that's 81, we have some that's 82, our youngest is 55, and they play granny basketball."

Nichols said the tournament and all donations are to support the Oklahoma chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

"It's going to be an awesome time for your family [and] your friends to come out and see granny basketball," Nichols said. "We're going to have raffles, silent auctions, concession stands... And we're going to be playing teams from Kansas and Texas."
