By organizing a bike tour through Norman, an organization within the city is helping to raise money for charity.

Wanting to learn more about the Norman Conquest Bike Tour, the Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch took a trip down to Norman to discover more about the event.

Chip Minty, a member of the Bicycle League of Norman, said this is the 27th year of the bike tour, and are expecting around 300 riders on Saturday.

"About 300 riders come Saturday morning to ride 23, 46 or 62-mile routes out in the hills of eastern Cleveland County," Minty said. "Very difficult in the heat... It'll be a great challenge."

To combat the heat however, Minty said there will be rest stops every ten miles.

"Riders will have plenty of access to water, plenty of food," Minty said. "There'll be vehicles out there to help pick people up and take them back if they get tired."

Minty said the whole event is to benefit the J. D. McCarty Center, which helps children with developmental disabilities.

"Over the years, 20 years or so, we've been raising tens of thousands of dollars every year for Camp Claphans," Minty said. "It's been a project of ours for a long time, and we're excited to continue to help them."

One of the children at Camp Claphans, which is a summer camp for children with disabilities and an outreach program of the J.D. McCarty Center, said she is on her third year at the camp.

"It just keeps getting better every year," Nevaeh Howard said. "It's really attainable... Because if this wasn't the camp, I probably wouldn't be able to go to camp at all."
