A documentary about Oklahoma City Thunder center Bismack Biyombo premiered at the DeadCenter film festival this year.

The film's director, Michael Zubach, joined News 9 at 9 to talk more about the film.

He said he was inspired by Biyombo's determination to follow his dream to play in the NBA and give back to his country.

"His story is about, you know, him changing his country and giving back, but more than anything, it's about family and the connection that he has with his father," Zubach said.

Zubach said Biyombo's story stood out to him because when he was drafted into the NBA, he used the money he made to start a foundation that would benefit his country.

"He started creating programs to help kids get scholarships to come to the States," Zubach said.

He said that Biyombo realized he couldn't get everyone out of the country, so he wanted give them a reason to stay.

"His foundation sat down and said, you know, 'Let's start building hospitals, schools, basketball courts to give them the resources to be successful in life in the Congo,'" Zubach said.

The movie will air on News 9 at 6:30 p.m. on July 13, 2024.

Zubach said he is excited for the world to learn more about Biyombo off the court.

"He is so selfless, so much humility, appreciation for life, and the thing we want viewers to know about this film, about him, is if you have a microphone for change, use it," Zubach said.
