Oklahoma City Police are investigating the overnight shooting death of a 13-year-old girl on Monday.
No arrests have been made but police identified the victim as 13-year-old A’Moni Young.
Police said Young died at OU Medical Center just before 2 a.m. on Monday.
Gunshots were heard in the area of Northwest 122nd Street and Walker Avenue. “My daughter told me she heard some shots,” said neighbor Kevin Braggs.
Air One was sent to fly over the scene.
“Several suspects did run from the scene,” said Lt. Jeff Cooper, OCPD. “We do have Air One and our canines on the ground at this time looking for the suspects.”
Kevin Braggs found out later in the morning a 13-year-old girl was shot and killed.
“It greatly concerns me of course it’s in my neighborhood and nobody wants to see anything like that happen to a child,” said Braggs.
Police said Young did not live at the home and adults were present at the time of the shooting. “It’s unclear at this point what led up to the shooting,” said Msgt. Gary Knight, OCPD. “The investigation is still in the very early stages so we’re still trying to piece together what happened.”
Investigators remained at the scene of the deadly shooting most of the day. Braggs said accident or not, he was heartbroken a young person lost their life.
“I just pray for the family because I heard she passed at the hospital,” said Braggs. “So, the family has got to be grieving right now.”
Investigators have been talking to witnesses and involved people. They said more information will be released in the coming days.
