Lawmakers across the nation and in Oklahoma are raising questions and concerns following the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump.

“If President Trump would not have turned his head this nation would have been on its head today, and this would have been upside down,” said Sen. Darrell Weaver, (R-Moore).

Weaver spent three decades in law enforcement, serving as the Director of the Bureau of Narcotics most recently, before being elected to the Senate.

Weaver says while the boots are on the ground, Secret Service agents assigned to the inner circle protection detail performed like clockwork on the protection of Trump, Weaver says he has serious questions and concerns about other security aspects.

“I'm very slow to criticize my brothers and sisters that carry badges because I've been there, but I want to say I could take an officer from Oklahoma that has sux months experience and gave them that plan, what it appears, and they would not have approved it,” said Weaver.

Weaver says he was watching the incident live, and his decades of training raised immediate red flags.

"The moment I heard that sound, I knew it was not a firecracker, I knew it was a high-powered rifle, and of course when I saw the former president grab his ear and go down, I knew that we were watching really history unfolding,” said Weaver.

Now, Weaver has a list of questions, saying Oklahomans should be demanding answers.

“Was it a resource issue? That is a question I have,” said Weaver. “Do we not have the manpower and the resources in the federal government to put somebody on those roofs?”

"The question too is what kind of instructions were given to the snipers?” said Weaver. “Law enforcement should have engaged; you know sometimes you have to get a green light from somebody. I would think in that scenario those trained snipers would have the green light.”

Weaver says he is taking his questions to lawmakers in Washington D.C. “It has to go as deep in the government as we can get it, we have to make sure the questions are asked.”

The senator from Moore says answers to these questions must be the top priority. He is now calling for answers and searching for accountability.

“I'm not calling for the resignation of the head of the U.S. Secret Service but I'm about an inch away from it,” said Weaver. “So I think at a minimum that somebody's head needs to roll on this, somebody has to take responsibility for what we witnessed on Saturday.”

Weaver says he has been in contact with U.S. senators and congressmen, getting updates on the latest investigations into the shooting.
