Following President Biden's decision to withdrawal from the presidential race on Sunday, Democratic leaders have rallied behind the party's new presumptive nominee, Kamala Harris.

In Oklahoma, Democratic Party Chairwoman Alicia Andrews said she was prepared to continue supporting Biden, but will now equally support Harris.

"I believe the party was divided in the 'who,' we have never been divided on the 'what,'" Andrews said. "And the 'what' is saving our democracy."

Pressures for Biden to drop out of the race grew after his debate performance against former President Trump; the first of the election. The DNC now faces a rush to select a running mate for Harris and confirm the two on its ticket during a virtual meeting the first week of August to meet Ohio's ballot deadline.

"What I think is true about Vice President Harris is that she's going to have a record to run on, unlike anybody who's run for Vice President in a very, very long time," said State Representative Monroe Nichols, a democrat from Tulsa. "So, I expect her to have a whole lot of success on the campaign trail."

Andrews asked state donors to stand behind Harris as the new presumptive nominee, and reunite as a party.

Potential VP candidates vary. Among the possible names floated by political strategists has been Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, who will be attending a fundraiser in Oklahoma in August.
