Starting a new year can be challenging for kids, as the transitions and differences can be overwhelming and stressful after the summer break.
Erin Engelke, the CEO of Calm Waters, sat down with the News 9 team to share some ways that can help kids cope with back to school anxiety and stress.
"There's anxiety associated with that excitement, but a lot of it is just some of the fear of the unknown. What is going to happen? Where am I going to sit? Who will my teacher be? You know, all of those unanswered questions often can cause anxiety," Engelke said.
Some of these methods could be planning or scheduling ahead, establishing regular daily routines, and reassuring your kids and yourself that everything is going to be ok.
"As a parent, if you are exuding a positive attitude about school starting that anxiety can shift to one of excitement. Making sure that you're communicating to your little ones is positive and very, very importat because they are going to feed off of your energy and the things that you are talking about in terms of school starting back again," Engelke said.
