Hundreds Of Students Receive Needed Supplies Through Sunbeam

Sunbeam Family Services provided school supply assistance to grandparents who are raising their grandchildren. More than 175 grandfamilies, totaling over 400 grandchildren, chose a new backpack stuffed with supplies to start the year off right. 

"A load has been lifted off of my shoulders," said Karen White who is raising her twin grandsons. 

As inflation continues to pinch at everyone's wallets, White shared how challenging being a single grandparent can be. She feels thankful for Sunbeam's support. 

"Knowing that somebody has your back is very helpful," said White. "They are wonderful people." 

A two-time volunteer at the event, Charlene Smith, loves being a part of the giveaway and seeing the smiles on everyone's faces. 

"They don't have another way and Sunbeam makes it possible," said Smith. "I think it makes a difference whether the kids have a good school year." 

Sunbeam empowers these grandfamilies through support groups, school supply assistance, educational seminars, holiday assistance, and additional resources.
