The Porch Visits Oklahoma Local Pro Pickleball Player In Edmond

Over the past few years, pickleball has taken the recreational sporting world by storm.

With the fanbase and player range continuing to grow with the sports popularity, a new league has been established for those at the top to compete at the highest level.

The National Pickleball League (NPL), has been making waves in the recreational sporting world since 2022 and gives the very best pickleball players a stage to compete.

News 9's Jordan Ryan took the Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch to a local pickleball court to meet and play with one of Oklahoma's own professional pickleball players.

Jenny Marcos, a professional pickleball player for the Indy Drivers, played tennis for several years before making the transition to pickleball a few years ago.

"So one day, we were playing tennis when this 70-year-old guy comes walking by and he said come and play with me, then we did. From that time on, I decided, you know what it's time to do it," Marcos said.

Like several other professional sports drafts, the NPL selects their players based on a variety of different factors such as playstyle and skill.

"These are teams that are owned by different people or companies and they pre-select their players like in the NBA or MLB," Marcos said.

Marcos and the rest of her teammates began the 2024 NPL season in May.
