The Oklahoma City Council held its scheduled meeting on Tuesday morning and voted on a resolution condemning hateful rhetoric.

The resolution condemns antisemitism, anti-Palestinianism, Islamophobia, and xenophobic rhetoric and attacks across the United States, including in Oklahoma, and calls for a ceasefire in Gaza.

After about an hour and a half of discussion and 18 public comments on the ceasefire resolution, the Oklahoma City council voted to “postpone the motion indefinitely,” 6-to-3.

Therefore, the ceasefire resolution did not pass the city council. During the council discussion, there were multiple outbursts, and the mayor threatened to empty the chamber.

However, the council did agree to halt the construction of new billboards along Lake Hefner Parkway and Northwest Expressway.

There is now a 905-day halt on anyone applying for a billboard in the area.

A shorter moratorium was put in place in 2022.
