A Pernell volunteer firefighter is recovering after two copperhead snakes bit him on Monday near his home.

Cody Cannon was walking to his truck to get his radio when the snakes struck. Immediately, he and his wife called for EMS which took him in an ambulance to Norman. There, he received 13 vials of anti-venom.

"I would say the pain level would be definitely a ten," Cannon said. "It's hard to explain the pain."

Family friends and colleagues have started a GoFundMe to help with expenses.

"I'm just glad it wasn't a rattlesnake, and I'm glad I got to keep my feet and my toes," he said.

Cannon, who works as a ranch hand for the City of Foster, said he expects to be off his paid and volunteer jobs for at least a few weeks.

He believes recent rain has possibly flooded snake dens, causing more to come onto his property.
