An Emergency Proclamation for the City of Cushing has been issued, according to an advisory on Monday.
The advisory stated that immediate water rationing is now in effect and now Cushing Public Schools has made the decision to postpone the first day of school by a week.
The district said it made the decision to allow enough time for the city to make the necessary repairs.
Over 8,000 residents in the city are being affected due to limited water usage
City officials said a flood in the basement and pipe gallery of the water treatment plant in Cushing damaged equipment, causing the plant to be unable to properly treat water, leaving only what’s in the city’s reservoirs for drinking water.
Crews are working to remove water from the basement, but in the meantime, the City of Cushing is asking residents to continue limiting water as it is crucial.
The city said it could be a week before the plant is operational, but once it's fixed, the water will need to be tested before people can use it.
