At first look, The Good Kids Boutique is your typical kids boutique but look a little longer, and you’ll find out that there is so much more than clothes and toys.
“My wife and I both felt like for whatever reason, we were supposed to have a kids boutique and we really didn’t know why,” said Jon Mays, owner of The Good Kids Boutique.
After opening the boutique in Moore last year their purpose became obvious. “We’re just trying to create a space where we can do something different,” said Mays.
They began looking for opportunities for employment for those who struggled to get work.
“We’ve got these five women, they’ve got small children, they don’t speak English and so they can’t find work, but they can all sew really, really well,” said Mays.
“We take clothes that are destined to go to landfills, at salvage prices, rip all of the seams out of them, wash the fabrics, and then they turn them into one-of-a-kind, unique kid items for us,” said Mays.
And the opportunity is providing a better life for them and their families.
“I’ve seen them move from those hard living situations to better living situations,” said Amanda Prather with The Good Kids Boutique.
Another special thing about the Kid’s boutique is the play clothes area.
“Like the highest dollar item back there would be like eight bucks,” said Mays.
However, families that need extra help, like emergency foster care families, can shop for free.
“So, once they qualify, essentially they get eight items per child every six months,” said Mays.
The Good Kids Boutique is located at 103 Northeast 1st Street in Moore. Visit their website www.thegoodkidsboutique.com
