Crews are working to make progress in the water crisis in Cushing Oklahoma.
City leaders say the water plant should begin producing water overnight, which means they are closer to solving the issue.
Before water can fully be restored a few things must happen, beginning with mandatory testing by the Department of Environmental Quality.
City leaders have emphasized that there is no way to speed up the process, so they can't give an absolute timeline on when water will be restored.
Problems with the water began Monday when mechanical issues caused a flood at Cushing's Water Treatment Plant. Since then, the community has been rationing water, with businesses closing to help conserve water.
Several businesses such as the local McDonald's began handing out any water they had on hand to help.
Donations from neighboring communities have also been pouring into the community.
Currently drinking water is being offered to residents at the Public Safety Center from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. until water is restored.
The start of the school year for Cushing Public Schools has been delayed until August 15, to allow the city plenty of time to make the needed repairs.
