McLain High School is developing a new plan to help students who frequently miss school, get to class on time.
It's called the 'Titan Transport' and the principal said it will head out into their surrounding neighborhoods to students who may have missed their bus or ride and bring them here to McLain High School. Titan Transport is an eight-person van that's part of a pilot program under the leadership of Tulsa Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Ebony Johnson.
Dr. Rob Kaiser is the principal at McLain. He says the program is part of Tulsa Public Schools' citywide initiative, Attend to Win! This initiative aims to reduce chronic absenteeism, which is when a students miss two days per month.
It also helps highlight the importance of regular school attendance.
“We know attendance is such an important piece of a student’s access to graduation and post-secondary opportunities and so we wanted to try to find a way to give students one more chance to get to school,” Kaiser said.
The Titian Transport is also available for students after school.
