When you think of law enforcement vehicles, a Ford Explorer or Dodge Charger might come to mind, but one Tulsa County Sheriff's Office Captain is turning heads with his ride.
With about 650 horsepower under the hood, this Pontiac Firebird will put you in the back of your seat. Captain Paul Tryon has had it since he was in high school.
"At lunchtime, we'd go out and do things we shouldn't do in cars, like race," said Tryon.
That was before Paul joined the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office and turned this car into the Enforcer. It's a retro throwback that turns heads.
"We said man we've got to get a picture of that or see what's going on we thought maybe you guys were making a movie or something it's just so cool," said Becky Kyser.
She is a child of the 60s and just had to get a couple of pictures.
"I could see it actually being a Sheriff's car back in the 60's," said Kyser.
Captain Tryon says it took a lot of money to get it looking this good.
"I've put a bunch of money into it. I might never get it back, but it doesn't matter because I don't plan on selling it," he said.
This 1969 Pontiac Firebird isn't just for show, it has all the bells and whistles.
With an engine that would wake up the neighbors, this dragster is the cure for Paul's need for speed.
"Everybody likes to go fast, even police like to go fast," said Tryon.
He even used the enforcer to pull someone over at a car show once.
"A guy in a real nice Corvette was leaving the car show and decided to start doing burnouts and everybody's looking at me like what are you going to do," said Tryon.
It was at a recent car show in Arkansas where Tryon won an award for having such a well-kept car.
"No, this is not standard issue."
Even with such a sweet ride, he says the Ford Explorer in his driveway is better suited for his job.
"No, this doesn't have air conditioning or power steering or radio, so my unit is a lot better," said Tryon.
But when he retires, he'll have more time behind the wheel of a true original.
