Heavy rains overnight in the Oklahoma City area caused several roads to close due to flooding, OHP said.

News 9 was near SE 48th and Sooner Road Sunday morning where several cars were flooded out on the road.

Chief Meteorologist David Payne said 6.64" of rain fell in OKC Sunday morning, sixth for the all-time daily record.

Rainfall totals over six hours this morning showed 4.9" of rain in Norman and 7.6" near Canton.

The downpours had authorities ask drivers to avoid several intersections in the area due to the extremely high waters.

OHP also said the I-44 west to I-44 south ramp is blocked after a semi carrying US mail overturned. It will be several hours until the roadway is cleared.
