A new event is making its way to Oklahoma, bringing together knitting, spinning, and crochet enthusiasts for the first-ever Oklahoma Yarn Crawl.
Inspired by the success of the North Texas Yarn Crawl, which they attended in April, Rebekah Nash and Tammy Pelfrey saw an opportunity to introduce a similar event to Oklahoma.
“We thought, you know, Oklahoma doesn't have this. Why shouldn’t we bring it to Oklahoma?” Nash said. “We have great small businesses across the state, and we wanted to highlight those.”
The Yarn Crawl will feature 12 participating stores across the state. Participants receive a passport to collect stickers at each location, which enter them into a giveaway.
“It’s a great way to connect with fellow community members, learn new techniques, and be inspired,” Nash said.
They said each store is an entry into the prize draw. About 40 prizes have been donated by stores and commercial vendors.
"There are a ton of prizes that you can get. It's a great way if you're interested in knitting or crochet, it would be a great time to go to your local yarn store and sign up for a class," Pelfrey said.
The Yarn Crawl kicks off Friday and runs through the following Saturday.
Stores will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with some extended hours for special events or knit nights.
