Police arrested a man on Friday they said was running from the scene of a deadly shooting in northeast Oklahoma City.

Devontia Robinson, 36, is accused of killing one person and injuring a second victim.

Police said Robinson refused to speak with homicide investigators by invoking his right to an attorney. Police had to rely on security video that allegedly showed the suspect shooting at two innocent bystanders.

Several 911 calls were made at 7:25 p.m. after gunshots rang out at the Dungee Apartments near Northeast 39th Street and Hiwassee Road.

“There was some type of altercation that was going on there at the apartment complex,” said Sgt. Dillon Quirk, Oklahoma City Police Department.

Police said Robinson fled the scene on foot and threw a gun while he was running. According to an arrest affidavit, Robinson was involved in a fight and surrounded by a crowd before the shooting. Police said security video showed Robinson pull a gun and shoot directly at an unarmed bystander who was not involved in the fight. Another person who witnessed the shooting attempted to run away. Police said video footage showed Robinson firing at the unarmed victim several times. Robinson then allegedly stood over 49-year-old Sherratt Johnson and fired several more times killing Johnson.

“Two people were shot, one sadly pronounced deceased at the scene,” said Quirk. “The other was taken to an area hospital and treated for a non-life-threatening injury.”

Police said Robinson was also injured by gunfire and taken to a local hospital to be treated before he was booked into jail.

“The suspect did have a gunshot wound to the foot believed to be self-inflicted,” said Quirk. “At this point, there’s no reason to believe there was a second shooter.”

Robinson was booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on complaints of first-degree murder, shooting with intent to kill, and a felon in possession of a firearm.

Police did not release the injured victim's name.
