Traffic is expected to be busy in Jenks on Thursday when the Tulsa Premium Outlet mall opens.
The outlet mall says it is working with the City of Jenks and the Jenks Police Department to ensure traffic runs smoothly during the grand opening and in the coming weeks.
Tulsa Premium Outlet owners are reminding people to be patient as they head to shop in Jenks for the grand opening. While traffic is expected to be heavy, there are several routes to reach the property.
Jenks police say if you're coming to the outlet mall from the 96th Street Bridge, you need to turn right on 9th Street and then onto Aquarium Drive. Continue down to the traffic circle and go east on 101st Street to go under the Creek Turnpike overpass to the east side outlet entrance.
If you're coming from the westbound lanes of the Creek Turnpike, exit at Peoria and Elm and use the far-left lanes to get to Outlet Drive. From the eastbound lanes of the Creek Turnpike, continue straight across Elm Street toward the outlet entrance. From Highway 75, go south on Elm to get to Outlet Drive.
Jenks Public Schools expects traffic delays on the first day of school due to the outlet mall opening.
The district advised parents to allow extra time for the morning commute and afternoon school pickup. They say Elm Street between Main Street and 111th Street, the 96th Street Bridge, and 101st Street and Riverside Drive near Jenks Middle School will be the areas with the heaviest traffic.
Jenks police also say the entrance at 7th Street and 101st Street will be closed to the public and only open for VIP guests and first responders.
