Sal Guerrero begins his fourth year at Catoosa, his second as head coach. Coming off the 2023 season in which the Indians doubled their win total, goals are high in Port City. The next step is one of consistency, according to Coach Guerrero. "Winning season, playoffs, that's the ultimate goal," says Guerrero. "I'm not trying to take Catoosa where they need to be; I'm trying to get them where they were before." That includes a couple of trips to the state quarterfinals and semifinals within the last 15 years. "I'm trying to get that winning culture to come back and have the community buy-in.”

There is excitement from last season after doubling their win total to four, with several games finishing close. Numbers are up across the board from kids wanting to play football again. This year, Catoosa will have close to 60 students out for the 2024 football season, up from under 30 a few years ago. The term "All In" is one that is used frequently around the football team. The term encompasses everything from the classroom, weight room, attendance, and performance on the field.

Catoosa will have a new defense this season after surrendering over 30 points per game last season. Chase Stookey is the new defensive coordinator for the Indians after coming from Inola. Catoosa has good maturity on the defensive side of the ball, led by Aiven Robbins. "As a sophomore last year, he had 138 tackles," Guerrero gushed. "He was top 5 in the state in tackles as a sophomore."

You can watch the entire interview with Coach Guerrero above for all the information on Catoosa Football. The season opener is at Pryor on Sept. 6.
