In the front yard of Bill Bruck’s house, a gift years in the making and a wish come true are about to happen.

“Growing up there was no question, you just did it,” said Bruck.

Bruck served 2 tours in Vietnam as an interpreter in the U.S. Army.

When he returned to the States, he and other soldiers didn’t get much of a welcome home.

“They said don’t mention anything about the military or about Vietnam,” he said.

But Bruck’s service and sacrifice are being mentioned loud and clear with a nonprofit called Flagpoles Honoring Our Veterans.

“We’re here to honor you with a flagpole today to show you our appreciation for your sacrifice and your service for this great nation,” said co-founder Ginger Blake to Bruck.

The group paid a visit to Bruck’s house. He's wanted a flagpole for years.

“At least five years … it means a lot to have something like this, it really does,” said Bruck.

His son, Michael, also served, another reason he wanted the flag outside his house.

“He was an Airborne Ranger and he passed away,” said Bruck.

For Bruck, it's a reminder of Michael and his own service.

“It represents America and the life … everything,” he said.

As the flag is raised outside his home for the first time, Bruck watches with pride.
