OSDE Grants Funds To Boost Literacy Rates In Oklahoma School Districts

Oklahoma will allocate $60 million to 25 districts for literacy programs, with Tulsa Public Schools aiming to enhance reading scores through tutoring and training.

TULSA, Okla. -

The Oklahoma State Department of Education will spend $60 million to help struggling districts improve student literacy rates.

The money can be used to help districts with tutoring, programs, and teacher training.

The money is going to 25 districts, including Tulsa Public Schools.

TPS said it has made improvements in student reading scores and hopes this money will help more.

Superintendent Dr. Ebony Johnson said, "We have plans in place around curriculum, around assessment tools, making sure we continue to do the tutoring all of those things we're going to do in order to continue to see the academic growth we're seeing right now."

OSDE said the money will be distributed over five years with $9 million available this year.
