Expect Oklahoma offensive coordinator Seth Littrell to open up the playbook a little more in Saturday night's game against Houston.
Head coach Brent Venables said the game plan in the opener was vanilla on purpose.
Simple or not, the Sooners must be better on third downs.
OU started the game 0 for 11 on the money down, but needing an average of 8.4 yards was a big reason why. Quarterback Jackson Arnold, who threw 4 touchdown passes against Temple, had just one completion over 20 yards.
Talking with Paul Finebaum earlier this week, Arnold said the offense will have way more wrinkles moving forward.
"It's not that the playbook was very vanilla," Arnold said. "It's just that Coach Littrell liked what he liked. These next couple of weeks, we have to develop an identity, so I'm excited to open up our offense."
The OU vs. Houston game is set to start at 6:45 p.m.
OSU quarterback Alan Bowman hit Rashod Owens for a 58-yard touchdown in the opener, and that's the decision defenses have to make when facing the Cowboys.
Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman said earlier this week that he's concerned about loading the box to stop running back Ollie Gordon because Bowman will make you pay.
The Cowboys and Razorbacks are set to do battle for the first time since 1980 on national television.
Both programs are looking forward to a tough but fun matchup.
"Big, physical, fast team, they are going to play hard. It is going to be a dogfight," said OSU wide receiver Brennan Presley. "We have talent; they have talent."
"Oklahoma State is a really good team; they are athletic," said Arkansas Quarterback Tylen Green. "This is why you come to Arkansas. This is a great opportunity to show what we have."
The OSU vs. Arkansas game is set to start at 11 a.m. on ABC.
Meanwhile, Tulsa is looking to go 2-0 for the first time since 2015. The Golden Hurricane is on the road at Arkansas State on Saturday night at 6 p.m.
