A double Dutch team in Preston is jumping into the national spotlight. The team is raising money to travel to New York.
Discover the rhythm with every tap of the rope and jump in.
It sounds simple by yourself but perfecting your timing with others and adding tricks are what Tori Graham and the Preston double Dutch team are trying to accomplish.
“If one person is off, whether it's a turner or jumper, the whole thing doesn't work. So everyone has to be on the same counts working together,” Tori said.
She is a senior in high school, and she works with kids of all ages to find that harmony.
She says it comes with its fair share of mess-ups, but their coach Vicky Graham pushes them to persevere.
“They probably say my favorite saying is one more time. I do that a lot,” said Vicky.
That perseverance will hopefully pay off because the team is hoping to travel to New York to perform routines at the Double Dutch Holiday Classic at the Apollo Theater.
“Our big goal is to go there, do our fusion routines and knock everyone's socks off, have a ton of fun,” Tori said. “I would love to win, but I think our main goal is just to show these people that, hey, we are from Oklahoma, and we can do it too.”
In the meantime, the team will spend every practice reaching their goals and jumping to new ones.
“It's just memorable and meaningful, and I am very proud because I see them struggle and then they get to where they think they are not going to achieve it and they do,” Vicky said.
