FC Tulsa took time to honor Green Country first responders at their game Wednesday night.

The club wanted to pay tribute to the lives lost during the terrorist attacks 23 years ago Wednesday.

The first responders say it’s always great to be appreciated and they liked being able to talk to the families they serve.

First responders and their families got discounts on their tickets to FC Tulsa’s game Wednesday versus Las Vegas as well as discounts on team merchandise.

EMSA paramedics carried the flags during the national anthem and several agencies took part in a halftime relay race.

Before the game, families could also look inside the trucks, practice their CPR skills, and meet with firefighters and paramedics.

One EMT says it’s nice their hard work gets noticed.

“It’s exciting,” said Hunter Austin. “It’s one of those things that we don’t get as often as we would like sometimes. Our job is one of those jobs that sometimes goes unseen or unnoticed until you need us. And that moment you need us, is kind of hectic and you never remembered what happened.”

Austin hopes people will check in on their loved ones who are first responders because it is a tough job.

“Just to thank your local first responders and give them a thought every now and then,” said Austin. “Give them a shoutout on social media if you have a loved one, family, friend neighbor maybe. Just give them a pick me up every now and then and check on them.”

FC Tulsa says it wanted to do something to honor those who serve others.

We all remember 9/11 and the great tragedy it was, and we want to remember the 412 brave first responders that gave their lives serving and protecting,” said Trenton Cox, an Account Executive for FC Tulsa. “One of my best friends in college was a volunteer firefighter, so it’s something that’s very close to me.”

FC hopes to holder another night like this one in the future.
